So first days always suck right? The not knowing what to do, the feeling like you are in everyone's way, the training that you have to attend but don't understand because they are designed for current employees, the pulled back muscles that make every body movement more painful than anything you've experienced...
Oh, I guess that's just me.
So anyway, today was the first day of work, and I guess you could say that it didn't quite go as planned...
Work itself was fine, I honestly think it's the fact that I'm beginning a job with no idea whats that's setting me back some. I've never been in a place to have to relearn everything. No training, just expected to jump in. I feel like it is going to take half my internship to learn half the stuff I need to know. Hopefully I learn quick.
I think the toughest part is going to be fixing gear. Today I learned how to fix a mountain bike, and I'm still even confused on parts of that...
I guess I should start at the beginning. So work started at 10am. I began by going in and hanging out and getting to know the people I will be working with. Everyone seems pretty cool, but I definitely think that I am going to have to prove I actually know what I'm talking about in the outdoors...
Around 11 or noonish I was out helping the other current intern (who is leaving in a week) put seats back in the 15-passenger van and made the terrible mistake of lifting with my back while hunched over. I dropped the seat, sat on it, and absolutely could not move the lower half of my body for the next 20 minutes... I still barely can, and thats after 2 tylenol, 2 ibuprofen, and a beer... So I guess we will see how I feel in the morning....
Anyway, the rest of the day was kind of downhill from there. I'm pretty sure it looks bad the new intern hurting her back the first day, but they can get over it I guess...
I'm learning some new stuff, I have a horrible feeling that this summer is going to put me behind a desk, but I guess c'est la vie, life goes on... (crap, wrong language!)
Oh yea, one last thing before I go... I do get the chance to go on the trip this weekend. 3 days of camping with quads and horseback if I feel like paying a fee. Sadly, if my back doesn't get better I may have to skip...
Great first day huh?!?!?!!?
On a side note, in a few days, today probably won't look as bad as I'm making it seem. But my back hurts and I'm annoyed, so I'm allowed to be frustrated. And I do have full faith that things will get better as time goes on. It's just been a long day and positive thoughts isn't so easy to achieve right now. But I promise, I will be fine...
